Fight the anti-refugee laws

The systems that are meant to support people seeking safety instead too often disempower, damage, and dehumanize. Our campaigning work seeks to change those systems. The asylum system here in the UK is unfair and ineffective, often leaving vulnerable people hungry and homeless.

Urge your senator to support the Equality Act

The Equality Act would prohibit discrimination in places of public accommodation, including hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, retail stores, transportation services, health-care facilities, and funeral homes. Individuals shouldn’t be denied access to shared facilities, such as bathrooms and locker rooms, in accordance with their gender identity.

Sign the petition to remove Columbus Day

While we applaud President Biden’s proclamation of October 11 last year as Indigenous Peoples’ Day we must demand a permanent change to this day each year. Columbus Day was signed into law in 1934 to honor a man who was no hero. Columbus Day must be abolished and replaced with Indigenous Peoples’ Day on a […]

Stop discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community and defend LGBTQ+ workers’ rights

Federal law protects people from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, ability, and veteran status. But there’s no federal law specifically barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. That means LGBTQ+ Americans are threatened by unjust firings, evictions, and other discrimination without little – if any – legal recourse.

Top 5 ways to help the homeless

Wanting to be a helper is human nature. We all see people on the street — homeless and hungry, addicted and impoverished — and we try our best to lend a hand. But these issues are so complex, and these people are so different, that it can be difficult to know how to help. That’s […]

We can end homelessness in America

We’ve made progress because the federal government has promoted evidence-based approaches—and because Congress has long recognized that homelessness is a bipartisan issue, harming individuals and rural, urban and suburban communities. But the housing shortage and rising rents in communities across the nation are direct threats to the progress we’ve made. Advocates must call on Congress […]

The Supreme Court wants to gut the Clean Water Act. Congress must protect it.

Yet another vital piece of environmental legislation in the United States is at risk, and this time it’s our water that will suffer. Supreme Court justices have recently expressed alleged concern about the “broad reach” of the Clean Water Act. At a time when our ecosystems are arguably more fragile than ever from the threat of global climate […]

Biden signs Respect for Marriage Act, recognizing marriage equality in federal law

President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act on Tuesday at a triumphant White House ceremony, enshrining federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages into federal law for the first time. Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic and Republican lawmakers, and more than 5,000 guests marked the occasion on a frigid White House South Lawn. The […]
